Welcome to the YES Academy 2018. Join us as we celebrate our 12th year of YES Academy in Kurdistan!
The YES Academy 2018 will focus on Hip Hop Dance and Hip Hop Music / Production and take place in Erbil at the Fig Club and at the Institute of Fine Arts from Sunday July 15 to Thursday July 26, 2018. We will meet daily except Fridays. Hip Hop Music Crew will meet daily from 11am to 2pm and then 5pm to 8pm, and Break Dance will meet from 3pm to 9pm at the Fig Club in English Village.
Wednesday July 25 – Performance at Family Mall 8pm
Thursday July 26 - Second Annual B-boy Battle at Family Mall 7pm.
Workshops with IDP children and refugees will also be organized and announced before the start of the Academy
APPLY/AUDITION: Thanks to support from American Voices’ donors and the U.S. Embassy-Baghdad and the U.S. Consulate-Erbil, this is a free program.
American Voices has limited funding from the U.S. Embassy to provide housing, transportation to Erbil and meals for participants from outside Erbil. If you want to participate in the YES Erbil 2018, APPLY NOW.
If you attended the YES Academy program before, you do not need to audition for the program, but you are required to apply online. Be sure to list the year(s) that you have attended the YES Academy in the past. If you are a new student you must submit a short audition video our sound file with your application.
All who submit auditions online must do so before June 18, 2018. All online applicants will be informed by phone on June 25 if they are accepted.
Housing, Transportation, Meals and Scholarships:
For all: This program is tuition-free.
We have funding for 18 Scholarship recipients, in the Hip Hop program only, from outside Erbil. This scholarship supports bus travel to Erbil from Baghdad (Air travel if from Basra), shared hotel room and small per diem for meals. Breakfast is included in your hotel stay.
Female participants are encouraged to apply.
Only participants 18 years or older are eligible for this scholarship.
Participants under 16: Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or older brother or sister or teacher. The guardian must be approved in advance by the administration.
Self-funded Participants from Outside Erbil: Participants from outside Erbil who are accepted into the program, but did not receive a scholarship, may attend the program if they cover own hotel, meals and transportation.
